7. Roopkund ‘The Skeleton Lake’, Uttarakhand

Roopkund, the Skeleton Lake, is located high up in the Himalayan Mountains and is famous for an incredible number of human skeletons found in the area. How did all these people end up near the glacial lake at the height of over 5,000 meters? It still remains a mystery.
Many believe the 300 skeletons belonged to Raja Jasdhaval and his men who were killed there on their way to Nanda Devi temple, but scientists found out that 70% of the remains had Iranian origin. Why would so many Iranian immigrants come here and what killed them? There are no weapon marks on the skeletons, so archaeologists believe they got into a severe storm that killed them. No one knows for sure!
